Life gets loud

Not only does life get busy, it can get downright loud. Periodically the pandemonium of people, places, politics, and purposes get more piercing than we prefer.
At such times we are often looking high and low for a vacation, or at least a few days off. And if that is not available, we long for a few good naps, or at least a large bag of therapeutic potato chips.
But such times are also a test of our spiritual depth. While a little rest and relaxation can be wise, the wisest thing we’ll do is turn to our Lord. The most natural thing for a Christian is to turn to the man that we have our hope in.
Jesus is our rest. He is our peace. He is our refuge. We are best refreshed in him. When life gets loud, Jesus can do to our hearts what he did to the sea. He said to the wind and the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. The same is readily available to us and our hearts.
