Potential

One look at this snake and many people automatically dislike it. There is just something about snakes that give some of us the heebie-jeebies.

Yet another look at this snake and most of would agree that God designed it just as He wanted, and more importantly He designed it just as it needed to be. And both of those design features are a reflection of His glory.

In other words, God designs living things to be impressive. And he does that to impress us with his impressiveness. Not because God has ego problems, but because God points us in the direction of what is the most impressive thing in the universe. God wants us to enjoy what is most enjoyable.

We too fit into this principle. We too have been designed just as God wanted, and we have been designed just as we need to be. Our impressiveness, and our own reflection of God’s glory, goes far beyond our talents and giftedness.

It also goes (and perhaps more importantly) to the impressiveness of our potential. Each one of us has significant untapped inner-strength, self-discipline, capacity to persuade, desire to love others, motivation to learn, and(!) a unquenchable desire to know and enjoy Jesus Christ better.

God designed us just this way. And on top of that he regularly and faithfully and patiently and lovingly moves within us and around us to give us both glimpses of what we can be and how to get there.

The next time we feel moved to stretch ourselves, let us take notice of the Glorious Designer at work.
