Empty…

It’s big. It’s impressive. It’s popular.

It’s shipwrecked.

That’s the story of this ship. And it is reported that it was caused by human error. A storm came up. The ship was empty, which left much of her hull exposed to the wind and the seas, and it was driven onto the beach. For some reason a tug wasn’t called.

In our culture certain things become popular. Their popularity gets bigger and bigger. People get more and more impressed for one reason or another. And yet they are empty.

And we know such things are empty.

Certain TV shows. Certain sports stars. Certain movies. Certain material things. Certain past times. Certain relationship.

And yet regardless of their very apparent emptiness, we’ll behave just like the world, and make much of them.

These things often shipwreck our witness and our daily walk with the Lord. We often get more excited about such things and less excited about our Lord.

Due to the human trait of denial, we don’t realize that we often look just like this ship. If we could see ourselves, we’d behave differently.

If we loved Jesus Christ as we often love the world, we’d see the world as empty.
