I like this photograph. The power of big surf is always so impressive

We went to the beach this past week. It has been a very hot Summer in Southern California, so it was very nice to spend a day at the beach.

Much of the reason I like the beach is the impressiveness of the surf.

And much of the reason I am a Christian is because of the impressiveness of what God does. The beach reminds me of this.

One of the things that happens when someone becomes a Christian is that Jesus Christ suddenly becomes impressive. He goes from vague person of history and becomes a real person. A very powerful person. Powerful in love and powerful in activity. Powerful in his promises and powerful in his commands.

This power that Jesus has means the world to Christians. We search far and wide, and we spend money like crazy seeking out something powerful in this world that can capture and keep our attention. Something that can give us pleasure and sustain that pleasure.

Unfortunately, as we all painfully know, nothing on this earth can fit that bill. We gotta look to heaven. And when we will seriously look, we will find Him, and his power, and his pleasure.
