Worse then selfish

I was convicted by a thought Paul Miller had in his book, A Praying Life: Connecting with God in a Distracting World.

It goes without saying that we are all selfish. But actually it is worse. Stop for a moment and think of three people you know. Any three people.  The very most important person in their life is them. That is, the person they think about the most and care about the most is them self.

Whether its your kids, your spouse, or your boss, they are thinking and looking after their own interests. And they are not passive about it. Rather they are intentional and focused and quite serious about it.  They will go to great lengths (and often foolish lengths) to satisfy their interests.

But the point isn’t other people. We are exactly the same way. To grasp this and to be convicted by it and be humbled by it is good. It should drive us to Christ. For such thinking and behavior definitely requires a savior.
